Presbyterian Church Ordains First Openly Gay Pastor

“A Pastoral Letter Regarding Bullying and Suicide”

Strong Support for Immigration Reform in Ohio & Arkansas
[04.15.2010]A national re-contact survey and three state-level reports released today show strong support for immigration reform among residents of Ohio and Arkansas. “Like Americans overall, Ohio and Arkansas residents support a comprehensive approach to immigration reform by approximately a 2-to-1 margin,” said Dr. Robert P. Jones, CEO of Public Religion Research Institute, which conducted the studies. Jones also noted that this strong support persists despite higher anxiety among Ohioans and Arkansans about economic vulnerability and competition with illegal immigrants for jobs. These state-level findings are generally consistent with findings from Public Religion Research Institute’s national survey on religion, values, and immigration reform, which was released in March.
Survey Shows Lutheran Clergy Support Ordination of Gay and Lesbian Clergy
[08.05.2009]A majority of clergy who belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) support ordination of gay and lesbian clergy, and a plurality (46%) support performing same-sex marriages in states where they are legal, according to a recent national survey by Public Religion Research. The Clergy Voices Survey is the most in-depth study ever conducted of Mainline Protestant clergy and contained nearly 60 questions related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues in the church and society.

[08.04.2009]Survey shows Presbyterian (USA) clergy support legal recognition of gay couples’ relationships and ordination of gay and lesbian clergy. The survey also found PCUSA clergy strongly support the church doing more to help members carefully consider gay and lesbian issues.
