Young illegal immigrants in Arizona are organizing against Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, who has ordered state officials to ignore the Obama administration’s new deferred-deportation policy. Under the policy, young illegal immigrants would be able to obtain a Social Security number, apply for a driver’s license, and open a bank account. A majority of Americans agree that illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children should be able to gain legal resident status if they join the military or go to college.

Meanwhile, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush channeled Chris Christie, telling Republicans to “stop acting stupid” on immigration.

A New York rabbi opened the RNC, and a Catholic cardinal will offer the benediction. This highlights the GOP’s heightened focus on Jewish and Catholic voters, although Catholics (particularly white Catholics) are a bit more of a swing vote than Jewish Americans.

Ann Romney made an appeal to female voters in her speech to the RNC on Tuesday night, but is now switching gears to focus on convincing Latinos to vote for her husband. This could be a tougher proposition: earlier this summer, fewer than one-third (32%) of Hispanic Americans said they had a favorable view of Mitt Romney.

Perhaps she should pull some talking points from this piece by John Sides.
